ParticleScout is WITec's own solution for automated particle analysis. After completing a ParticleScout measurement (they run significantly faster than Gepard measurements), the results can be imported to Gepard for further processing (e.g. contour editing or database upload). Following steps are required:
Preparation in ParticleScout
Following files are expected by Gepard during the import:
- An image file named [xxx].bmp
- Coordinate system info in [xxx].txt
Both these files are generated in ParticleScout via ParticleScout > Save Particle Image
in the top menu bar
- [xxx]-particles.csv, created via
ParticleScout > Export Flagged Particles to CSV...
in the top menu bar - [xxx]-spectra.txt, created via
ParticleScout > Export Flagged Particle Spectra to ASCII...
in the top menu bar
CAUTION:
- Particle flags should not be edited during exporting.
- Additional [-] are not permitted in basename .
- Before continuing, all four files must be placed in the same folder.
Import in Gepard
In Gepard (not GEPARDevaluation) choose Import ParticleScout Project
in the left menu bar. In the file dialog, navigate to the corresponding directory and select [xxx].bmp. Depending on the project's size, this step could take several minutes.
When the import is complete, Gepard opens the particle detection window. The detection parameters can be adapted as usual, but no manual "painting" or "erasing" is possible at this stage. When the particle detection is completed, the project is saved in the usual Gepard format with an additional text file ending with "_TrueMatchResults.txt".
Processing in GEPARDevaluation
The project can be opened in GEPARDevaluation for further processing. The results from ParticleScout have now been combined to Gepard's particle detection. ParticleScout measurements points of which the coordinates do not fall within a Gepard contour are represented with square contours. Gepard contours that do not enclose at least one measurement point are marked "No result yet".
From this point on, the project can be processed in the usual manner.
